Big changes

Well, hello almost-end-of-2019. What a year!

Let’s not bury the lede — S and I welcomed our beautiful Baby K into this world on June 5 and it seems that time has only sped up since then. Motherhood is everything I’d hoped it would be, and a truckload more. To have created this tiny human that relies on you for everything is no small task. Fortunately, I was able to take maternity leave for three months over the summer, and boy, did I need that! The hormonal shift post-partum really did a number on me. I’m very thankful to have a wonderful support system in place, in addition to some talk therapy, that has gotten me through this ever-changing landscape. To think Baby K will be five months old in a week is proof that time really is continuing to fly by. I am mostly looking forward to this holiday season and celebrating Baby K’s first Thanksgiving and Christmas.

In addition to welcoming Baby K, S asked me to be his wife on my 31st birthday this year! I would imagine it will be at least a yearlong engagement. I’m not one to have dreams of a huge, traditional wedding. I see us simply throwing a party on our family’s land and inviting both sides of the family to come celebrate with us. I have already checked out some toddler flower girl dresses, though. And yes, they are as cute as they sound!

Professionally, I have been working at Southlake Style magazine as the Advertising Art Director for a little over a year. We are a small but mighty team that produces a beautiful print product, has a wonderful website and hosts some great events that benefit local charities like GRACE and Susan G. Komen. Our bosses have been building a new, and bigger, office space for us this year and we are set to move in by the year’s completion! It will be wonderful to start the new year in a new space.

S has still been working in the HVAC industry in a lot of new construction in and around Highland Park and other ritzy areas of Dallas. Some of the houses he has shown me pictures of really astound me. Just imagine a walk-in shower with nine shower heads. Yes, NINE! I couldn’t believe it either. But, to each their own.

I am looking forward to owning our own home within a few years and paying down some of my debt. ‘Watch the pennies, and the dollars will make themselves.’

And always include a sprinkle of gratitude — I am thankful for us always having enough, whether it’s enough money, love, support or time. I am thankful for Baby K’s good health and development. I am thankful for the love and support from S and my mother. I am thankful for the opportunity to get up and make today truly count!

I am going to try harder to use this as a vessel to chart my post-partum depression journey, among other things. Onward!
